I will share a story that was sent to me by one of gym’s client. These stories have a deep meaning attached to them. This one in particular has a lesson that I want to apply immediately. As I have reiterated many times, being fit and healthy indeed needs a holistic approach. Both your mind and body needs to be harmony.
This week’s read is a beautiful story which many of us would have heard at some point in our lives – it is called “Heart is a Beautiful Garden” and goes like this . . .
Once a Junior School teacher asked her students to bring some potatoes in a plastic bag to school. Each potato had to be given a name of the person that the child hates. So, the number of potatoes will be equal to the number of persons that the child hates. On the decided day, the children brought their potatoes with the assigned names. Some had two, some three and some even had five potatoes.
The teacher said that they have to carry these potatoes with them everywhere they go for a week. As the days passed, the children started to complain about the rotten smell that started coming from these potatoes. Also, some students who had many potatoes complained that it was very heavy to carry them all around.
The children got rid of this assignment after a week, when it got over. The teacher asked, “How did you feel during this one week?”. The children discussed their problems about the smell and the weight.
The teacher said, “This situation is similar to what you carry in your heart when you don’t like some people. This hatred makes your heart unhealthy and you carry that hatred in your heart wherever you go. If you cannot bear the smell of rotten potatoes for just one week, imagine then, the impact of this hatred that you carry throughout your life on your heart ?”.
Our heart is a beautiful garden that needs regular cleaning of unwanted weeds. Forgive those who have not behaved as expected with you and forget the bad things. This helps in two ways – while it keeps your heart clean and healthy, it also creates room for storing good and healthy thoughts and feelings.
PS: Life is short. Let us not burden it with unwanted things.
